New website price lists & announcements in order of issuance...

New on 18 January 2012:

The Iceland Covers section has been completely reorganized, expanded, and has many new covers. The covers are categorized on 49 pages based on stamp issue / time period, type of mail service, etc. Sections of special interest, with many new items, include: Icelandic SHIP COVERS, Icelandic AIRMAIL COVERS, and Icelandic VATNAJOKULL GLACIER EXPEDITION COVERS.

A modest, but significant range of Danish Postage Due Covers has been added to the website. They range from Danish postage due stamps on covers from other countries, to underpaid internal Danish covers, to Danish business reply mail covers, including postage due meter imprints.

Denmark Railway Locomotive Personnel Help Fund Charity Seals are listed in the catalogs as Christmas Seals. These very attractive locomotive seals were issued from 1914 to the 1950s. Many are quite scarce -- and sought after by railway thematic collectors -- but I have been able to assemble a nice group of the earlier issues.

Several new Collection Lots have been added.

New Price Lists are available as downloadable Acrobat PDF files for viewing on your computer or printing out and by postal mail. At long last I have divided the Scandinavian price lists by country (instead of huge all-Scandinavia lists for "stamps" vs "specialized"). Each individual country price list includes everything that is on the website for the respective country. Price lists are available for: Aland, Danish West Indies, Denmark (including Slesvig), Faroe, Finland (including North Ingermanland), Greenland, Iceland, Norway (does NOT yet include "regular" stamps; send your want list), Sweden (does NOT yet include "regular" stamps; send your want list). New on 14 September 2011:

New on 30 August 2011:

Denmark Semi-Official Airmails and WWII Anti-Nazi Illegal Labels have new items added.

A very attractive Used VF example of Faroe #1 has been added. It is accompanied by a Jay Smith Certificate with Lifetime Guarantee!

A very unusual group of full mini sheet cacheted Faroe FDCs has been added. Because of their original cost and the declining number of private cachet makers, these are seemingly very scarce.

Postal stationery indicia ("Stamp Print") Finland reprints have been added. These were officially printed in "stamp size" instead of full postal stationery envelopes. Also, interesting Saarinen Lion (1917-1929 design) Finland proofs have been added.

A significant group of additional Norway Seamens Homes in Foreign Ports Charity Seals have been added to stock including some that are either first I have had or at least the first I have had in a very long time.

Many mint, mostly NH Canada Stamps have been added to the website.

New on 28 July 2011:

A variety of interesting items have been added (as well as many stamps into the "normal stamps" listings). DWI 17a (Rare Normal Frame), Never Hinged! And also some other nice varieties. Faroe #1 Mint and Used available. Faroe Very unusual FDC collection including many cachets of which I have never before had examples! Greenland Pakke-Porto Stamps in Savings Book. A rare item, loaded with stamps (Scott #Q6a and #Q11) that are seldom seen used with village cancellations. Greenland Flight Covers. Some scarce new items have been added. Greenland Cancellation Card Collection. Very interesting and priced far less than half their individual value. Sweden #O5 [Official 6 öre Gray, Perf 14] Used VF+.

A few notable worldwide items have been added as well. Prussia #4. Five copies including a 3-strip on a postal stationery front-only. Charles Lindberg Autograph. A very scarce piece of aviation history!

Denmark Christmas Seal Official Reprints (4 pages): Since 1976, older Danish Christmas seals have been officially reprinted by the Danish Christmas Seal Fund. The front of the sheet indicates the year of reprinting, in Danish, such as "Nytryk 1976". The back of each seal also bears the year of reprinting, in English, such as "Reprint 1976". These are usually collected as sheets of ten. Additionally, between 1976 and 2001, nine souvenir sheet reprints have been officially issued in conjunction with stamp shows. These have mostly consisted of five seals: One oversize design and four normal size seals, as well as marginal text.

Denmark "Cold War Emergency Stamps" New Discoveries. I have just discovered (or at least seem to be the first to record in the literature) a NEW PAPER TYPE and two significant NEW PLATE VARIETIES.

Danish tete-beche pairs came from the special sheet layouts needed to make booklet panes. The special tete-beche pairs (i.e. those not listed by Scott) are listed by the specialized catalogs, however, it turns out that the listings ignore significant color shades. As each new printing (of the same stamp) for booklets was made there was the possibility of a different color shade. When the remainders of these special sheets were sold (officially, by the post office) to collectors in 1971, it seems that little care was taken to document the different printings / color shades for each stamp. Instead the catalogs just listed them by the basic color of each stamp issue.

Several new Collection Lots and Albums have been added.

A variety of new Icelandic Stamps have been added, especially airmails, including varieties, high-quality stamps, and bargains.

A substantial group of United States Stamps has been added, ranging from early issues up to the 1930s. They range from mint & used singles to mint & used blocks. There are a some nice multiples of the $2 Prexie and also a useful group of Ducks.

A new section of United States Ephemera has been added for non-philatelic paper ephemera items which may still hold interest for collectors.

Several new Collection Lots, Albums, and Literature have been added.

New on 20 April 2011:

Danish tete-beche pairs came from the special sheet layouts needed to make booklet panes. The few regularly issued tete-beche pairs of Denmark are well known and are listed in the Scott Catalog. However, there is another group of special tete-beche pairs that Scott does not list and which are quite scarce -- of some of these, as few as 130 pairs were released!

To my knowledge the most complete listing on the Internet of Iceland Orlof Overprints on Postage Stamps. The purpose of orlof stamps was to collect payment from employers of temporary, part-time, or seasonal employees for vacation pay. The stamps were purchased from post offices, placed in savings books, and then redeemed the following year at vacation time. These 19 orlof-overprinted postage stamps range from uncommon to rare.

Norway #543 INVISIBLE GUM (NK #941II Hs5 Paper), a 50 kroner stamp picturing King Olav, is an extremely scarce stamp, probably destined to become the scarcest, most valuable post-1960 Norwegian stamp.

Scandinavian Tourist Stamps & Booklets. This section has been completely revised with a lot of additional information. The gum varieties (there is one of which only 3200 were issued!) are now included and for the first time, the booklets have been listed and are currently in stock (but surely won't last long)

There are separate price lists for:

   Each Scandinavian Country:

       Aland
       Danish West Indies
       Denmark (including Slesvig)
       Faroe
Finland (including Karelia and North Ingermanland)
       Greenland
       Iceland
Norway (does NOT yet include all "regular" stamps)
Sweden (does NOT yet include all "regular" stamps)

   Slania-Engraved items (also Greta Garbo)

United States Stamps (and few covers)
Worldwide Stamps (and a few covers). Does not include U.S. or Scandinavia.

   Scandinavian Philatelic Literature

Please only request the lists you actually need; they are very expensive to print and mail.

Please read this if you are in the U.S. or Canada or this if you are in another country. Then send an email and please specifically state if you want specific Scandinavian countries, Slania, United States, Worldwide, or Scandinavian philatelic literature price lists. (Repeated non-specific requests will probably be ignored.)

Please note that these lists only include what you see listed on this website and are provided simply as a convenience. If what you are seeking is not shown on the website, then please send your want list rather than just requesting a price list. (If it is not on the website, it won't be in the price list.) Clients who send want lists always have access to the freshest stock and new items as they come in.

For U.S. and Canadian Clients...
The first copy of printed price lists will be sent to U.S. and Canadian clients at no charge. Further updates can be sent, upon request, at no charge to those clients actively making purchases or who send want lists. Otherwise there may be a postage charge for further updates -- these lists cost several dollars each to print and mail.

For Overseas Clients...
Unfortunately, due to the large number of requests received from overseas people who seem to just collect "free price lists" -- and because a) all the information the lists contain is on this website and b) the overseas airmail postage cost is very high -- there will be a MINIMUM $10 shipping charge (payable by MasterCard, Visa, PayPal, cash, US$ check, etc.) for price lists sent to overseas addresses. A matching-amount credit voucher will be included with the price lists and will be valid only on purchases (totaling) at least five times the amount of the credit. Example: If the shipping cost is $10, you will receive a $10 credit which will be valid on a purchase of $50 or more.

Please email to inform me of the desired price lists and to learn the shipping cost for them. I will need to know exactly which price lists you wish to receive and I will need to know your COMPLETE POSTAL ADDRESS.

Once you have been informed of the shipping cost and if you wish to proceed....

To send shipping cost payment by PayPal, use the email address "paypal@JaySmith.com", use a subject of "Price List Shipping Payment" and be sure to indicate again the price lists you desire and include your complete postal address.

To send your MasterCard or Visa number, please use my secure payment website. For your security, never put a credit card number in a normal email!

To send a US$ check or cash (at your own risk), please see my postal address information.

Facit >> Scott and Scott >> Facit Catalog Number Concordances

To meet my own need for catalog number concordances, I have finally started publishing comprehensive catalog number concordances for the Scandinavian countries. At this moment only DWI, Greenland, and Iceland are ready (the later two only up to 1995, so far). However, I will be preparing these bidirectional catalog number concordances for all the Scandinavian countries and eventually will include the other specialized catalogs as well. Reservations are welcomed. These are very inexpensive (considering the labor required to make them) and are published loose-leaf. An attractive binder is available. I intend to update the concordances annually; subscriptions are available. Though these have only been available for a few weeks, they have been a great hit. You will find them extremely useful!

Facit Specialized Catalog PAGES BY THE COUNTRY.

These are genuine Facit Catalog pages, not copies (of course!). They are loose pages; please be aware that there is no room for binding -- you will have to figure out for yourself how to bind or otherwise manage them. The pricing is by country. There are sometimes conflicts involving back-to-back countries, thus I am offering the pages a number of different ways to compensate for this. Supply is very limited. If you have always wanted a Facit Catalog, but could not justify it for "just one country", this is your chance -- but you must act quickly. Here is more information about the Facit Scandinavian Specialized Catalog.
Shopping Cart System and Secure Website for Credit Card Payment
My shopping cart system is fully functional for almost all the price list pages. The cart system will be extended to the few remaining pages very soon. I also have a secure website for secure acceptance of credit card payments. You can use this method any time you wish to send your credit card information: for placing orders, making approval payments, or for updating new issue and Stender supplement credit card information, etc. I take the privacy and security of your information very seriously -- I never share your information with anybody for any reason.
